WINNIPEG — Manitoba Progressive Conservatives on the campaign trail for the April 19 election are promising flood protection.
Tory Leader Brian Pallister says he would commit to finishing a $495-million outlet on Lake Manitoba that is already in the planning stages.

The federal government has agreed to put up $248 million of that total.
Communities around the lake have been battered by flooding in recent years.
Pallister says the NDP government has taken too long to get the project finished.

The New Democrats, in a written statement, say Pallister has promised to cut spending, if elected, and projects such as the outlet would be at risk.
