A local police department bomb squad in Texas had the privilege of exploding 20,000 pounds of fireworks all at once.

According to the Midland Police Department’s Facebook page, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized the fireworks.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Even though Midland police shared a video of the explosion on Facebook which has received over 240,000 views, they said the bomb squad exploded the fireworks during the daytime because “it was not meant to be a fireworks show.”

Some Facebook commenters were disappointed that the fireworks were destroyed, calling it a waste and suggested the fireworks could be sold or used for a community fireworks show.

However, the Midland police said the fireworks had to be destroyed due to a court order.
