Lethbridge school tells the classic tale of Rumpelstiltskin

LETHBRIDGE – The students of Wilson Middle School will be presenting a play telling the classic story of Rumpelstiltskin as part of its Collage of the Arts event which runs from March 21 to 23.

Vera Morris’ My Name is Rumpelstiltskin tells the tale of an impish villain, a greedy queen, a castle of shenanigans and straw that turns into gold.

Students have been working on the production for some time now. Director Lauren Copp said the cast of 64 has been tirelessly working on the show every moment they have.

“Everyone has these roles they can connect with, from Grade 6 all the way up to Grade 8,” she said. “Our kids are so dedicated, they are so positive, they are so committed.”

The students finally had the opportunity to work with the stage and props on Friday afternoon.

“Usually in middle school, we say, ‘Here’s the stage, here’s a costume, here’s a prop.’ But our cast has not got any of those things until today,” Copp said. “It’s the first time using everything at this point.”

The production will also feature the Wilson Stage Band and takes place at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre at 7 p.m.
