MONTREAL – It took six minutes for Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau and Dany Provençal to clamber up a rope into a waiting helicopter as they escaped a detention centre in Saint-Jérôme back in 2013.
Footage of the dramatic escape was shown at Hells Angels sympathizer and accused murderer Hudon-Barbeau’s trial Monday.

The footage was obtained by Le Journal de Montréal and shows the two inmates risking their lives for a shot at freedom.
Hudon-Barbeau, 36 at the time, was arrested just six hours later and police quickly moved in on Provencal, then 33, who was serving time for breaking and entering and arson.

Quebec Provincial Police Sgt. Benoit Richard had said he was holed up in a sugar-shack type of structure and surrendered peacefully without incident.

“It was very peaceful. Nobody was injured,” said Richard at the time.
“The siege in Chertsey is finished.”
The prison warden explained guards did not fire on the chopper because officers posted inside the jail are unarmed.
