SASKATOON – Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball succeeded in defending their home court this past weekend. The team won their fourth Canada West title in program history.
The University of Saskatchewan earned their spot in the conference final with a 78-68 win over the University of Alberta Pandas Friday.
The Huskies met the University of Regina Saturday in an all-Saskatchewan conference final after the Cougars beat the MacEwan Griffiths Friday in the semi-final.
Regina pushed back in the fourth quarter but the Huskies held the lead and won 73-62 in front of over 2,300 fans at the PAC. Sabine Dukate led the way for Saskatchewan scoring 18 points.

Saturday’s final was a rematch of the 2011 Canada West final which was also held at the PAC. The Huskies were victorious over the Cougars with a 77-74 result.
Both teams qualify to travel to Fredericton, N.B., and compete at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) final 8 from March 17-20.
The Huskies’ 18-2 during the 2015-16 regular season and 4-0 in the playoffs has earned them the No. 2 seed at nationals.
