With cameras rolling, an eight-year-old boy channeled his inner Steph Curry and drained an incredible buzzer beater from beyond half court during a game in Alexandria, Va., earlier this month.

William Herman, who plays point guard for the Lee Mt. Vernon Sports Club Steelers, found himself with the ball – and just two seconds on the clock – during a game at Hayfield Elementary School on March 7.

With time about to expire and his team trailing by two, Herman heaved up a prayer from beyond half court – and couldn’t believe it when the shot went in.

While the Steelers couldn’t capitalize on Herman’s incredible shot, ultimately losing by a score of 43-35 in overtime, Herman’s father, Benjamin, was still impressed by his son’s odds-defying shot.

He says the boy has been playing basketball since he was four.

“They tend to make the best player the point guard because that requires the most skill at this age,” said Benjamin.

“Some of the kids at this age are still learning to dribble. But meanwhile, William is doing Allen Iverson-style crossovers and things.”

And while his position and seeming propensity for distance shooting would make him a natural Steph Curry fan, dad says when Herman is out on the driveway playing around, he’s usually wearing the jersey of his favourite player, Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
