RCMP are investigating after dozens of guns were stolen from a rural home near Sundre, Alta. this week.

On Tuesday, police officers were called to a reported break and enter at the home in which 35 long-barreled firearms and 15 handguns were snatched from a secured room. Some jewelry was also stolen.

The homeowner’s pickup truck was later found abandoned a few kilometres away from the theft but the other stolen items were not recovered.

Mounties said witnesses reported seeing a newer, blue pickup truck – jacked up with big tires and a blue tarp in the box – in the area of the home around the time of the break and enter.

In a news release, RCMP said as in all similar cases involving firearms, they are “very concerned for the safety of the public” and are hoping anyone with more information will come forward.
