A former northern Alberta teacher’s aide was sentenced to one year in jail Wednesday after she admitted to sending nude photos to two teenagers.

Charmaine Yuschyshyn, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and two counts of communicating online to facilitate the making of child pornography.

The charges stem from conversations Yuschyshyn had with two teen boys via Facebook and text message between Nov. 1, 2012 and Feb. 2, 2013. The boys attended the school where she worked at as a teacher’s assistant. The school is not being named to protect the two boys.

Yuschyshyn admitted to sending nude pictures to one of the boys and asking him to send pictures of his penis, which he did. She also sent audio recordings of herself masturbating and asked the boy to do the same. Yuschyshyn also described how she would dress in sexy underwear for him.

Yuschyshyn had similar text conversations with the second teen. They exchanged nude pictures and she invited him to go for a drive so she could perform oral sex on him. However, there was never any sexual contact between the two.

In December, a jury in Peace River, Alta. found Yuschyshyn not guilty on charges of child exploitation by a person of authority. The 40-year-old mother of two pleaded guilty to the other charges immediately after the verdict.

The one-year sentence was a joint submission by the Crown and Defence and is the minimum sentence for these offences. After serving her sentence, Yuschyshyn will have to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for the rest of her life and provide a DNA sample.
