CALGARY – RCMP say speed and human error may be factors in a fiery collision north of Sundre on Sunday which killed one person.
Officers were called to the intersection of Highway 22 and Township Road 254 at around 5:20 a.m. for reports of a minivan in the ditch. The vehicle had caught fire.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the fire had consumed both the vehicle and the driver.
RCMP believe the minivan was travelling northbound on Highway 22 when it lost control, rolling into a ditch and striking a tree which caused it to catch on fire.
The driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, has been identified as a 51-year-old man from Caroline, Alta. At the request of the family, investigators won’t be releasing the victim’s name.
Chinook Arch Victim Services is providing support to those who witnessed the crash, as well as the family of the deceased.
