RCMP diffuse tense situation at Hampton residence, arrest one man

RCMP in New Brunswick say they have diffused a tense situation at a residence near Hampton on Friday morning.

Police say they were called to a residence at about 1:10 a.m. Friday after a report of a shot being fired.

A female resident of the home escaped safely and a 26-year-old man was taken into custody after surrendering peacefully nine hours later.

RCMP tactical units were brought in to negotiate with the man. Police say no one was hurt in the incident.

Route 845 on Kingston Peninsula was closed to traffic as RCMP dealt with the situation.
