OTTAWA – An Ottawa firefighter is dead and a second man is hospital following a snowmobile crash in the Vars area southeast of Ottawa.
Paramedics say the two machines collided on a trail late Thursday morning near Forced Road and Russell Road.

Sean Mathieson, a father of two who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, an unidentified 18-year-old man, was taken to hospital in serious condition with head injuries.

The 18-year-old man’s name was not released.
Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
