Homicide Team investigating death at Fraser Regional Correctional Centre

UPDATE:  IHIT has now taken conduct of this investigation. 

The alleged suspect, 27-year-old Zachariah Pakarinen, was initially charged with aggravated assault for his part in the altercation. On April 22, victim passed away from injuries sustained during the fight. Pakarinen remains in custody and further charges are being considered.

A 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at Ridge Meadows Hospital just before 6 p.m. on Saturday after an altercation at the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre.

The Integrated Homicide Investigations Team has been called in to determine the circumstances leading up to the man’s death.

Investigators believe there may be witnesses with information about what led up to this in custody death and ask anyone who has not already spoken to police to come forward.
