Saskatchewan election results 2016: Sask. Party wins Moose Jaw North riding

Warren Michelson of the Sask. Party has won the Moose Jaw North riding with 4,313 votes beating out the NDP’s Corey Atkinson who got 2,495 votes.

Summary: Moose Jaw North is an urban riding surrounding the northern part of the city. Saskatchewan Party MLA Warren Michelson seeks re-election in Moose Jaw North.

Boundaries: The boundary surrounds part of Moose Jaw and stretches from Thatcher Drive in the west to North Service Road. It also goes from Parkdale Boulevard in the north to Caribou Street in the south. Six per cent of this redefined riding used to be part of the Thunder Creek riding.

Last Election: Saskatchewan Party incumbent Warren Michelson defeated NDP candidate Derek Hassen by 1,767 votes, 59 per cent to 34 per cent.

History: Warren Michelson has been the Saskatchewan Party MLA since 2007. Prior to that, Glenn Hagel was the NDP MLA from 1986 to 2007.  This district was created in the 1967 election after the provincial government ended a system of multiple-MLA electoral division for Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.

Candidates

Saskatchewan PartyWarren Michelson, member of the Public Accounts committee and the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of the Economy for Manufacturing. He is also the co-chair of the Saskatchewan Construction Panel.

NDP: Corey Atkinson, former reporter at the Moose Jaw Times Herald and founding member of ROAR, a group dedicated to supporting families of children with cognitive disabilities.

Liberal: Brenda Colenutt, concourse supervisor at Mosaic Place with Compass Groups of Canada

Green: Caleb MacLowich
