Who knew getting your mail could potentially be dangerous? In the borough of Lachine, several inches of ice have pilled up on a small pathway between 54 and 55 Avenue, making an everyday task all the more difficult.
James Harris is feeling frustrated. After asking the borough last Tuesday to clean up the pathway, the borough has given him the run around and has done nothing.
“There’s no excuse for this. We pay enough taxes and I don’t see much of my tax dollars going towards providing us with a safe walk way,” Harris said.
The borough denied a request for an interview, and denied responsibility for maintaining safe access to the community mailbox. They said it’s up to Canada Post to clean up the pathway, which is used by commuters to get to a local bus stop.
“If it’s Canada Post, maybe they have to de-ice under the box itself, but the pedestrian walkway that goes from 54 to 55 should be done by the city. Everybody that takes the 196 bus takes that pathway,” Harris said.
A Global News request for comment from Canada Post was not immediately answered.
