Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey? Offensive Internet conspiracy theory claims singer is murdered pageant darling

This is one internet conspiracy theory that doesn’t involve aliens or government cover-ups, but it’s still pretty bizarre, not to mention outright offensive considering it involves a little girl’s murder.

The theory goes that murdered pageant tot JonBenét Ramsey, who was found dead in her parents’ basement in 1996, actually grew up to be pop singer Katy Perry. Apparently, Ramsey was never murdered and instead became one of the most popular musicians in the world.

This out-there theory originated in December 2014 in a YouTube video by faceless conspiracy theorist Dave Johnson, though it’s recirculating now. You can watch the video, below.

Johnson says that “nobody died, nobody got hurt.” Instead, Ramsey sacrificed only her name in exchange for becoming a star.

The YouTube poster reveals several “facts” supporting his claim, including the tidbit that JonBenet’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, look similar to Perry’s own parents, Keith Hudson and Mary Perry.

Patsy Ramsey died in June 2006 from ovarian cancer, and John Ramsey remarried in 2011 to fashion designer Jan Rousseaux, so if the parents were the same people, then it would most certainly be noticeable.

Another hole in the theory relates to the ages of Perry and Ramsey. If Ramsey weren’t murdered, she would be 25 today, a full six years younger than Perry’s current age of 31.

YouTube conspiracy theorist, Jungle Surfer, says you can tell Perry and Ramsey are the same person because of their eyebrows. “You know, the eyebrows don’t change much on a person,” he says. “You’re born with your eyebrows. They’re very close, very close indeed, aren’t they? As you know, this whole entertainment industry is just a charade — you really don’t know the truth.”

People on Twitter expressed their disgust at the conspiracy:

These types of theories are dangerous and incredibly disrespectful to families who’ve lost a child, especially in such a horrific manner.

Ramsey’s parents were implicated and accused of playing a part in her death. They were exonerated of all wrongdoing after much investigation and several legal proceedings.
