WINNIPEG — The captain of the Winnipeg Jets was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday evening. Andrew Ladd was traded along with fellow forward Matt Fraser and defenceman Jay Harrison.
The Jets get forward Marko Dano from the Blackhawks and the Hawks first round draft pick this year and a conditional pick in the 2018 NHL draft.
Twenty-one-year-old Dano has played in 48 NHL games with both the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Chicago Blackhawks. He was named one of the top three players on Team Slovakia at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2013.

Ladd has been captain of the Winnipeg Jets since the team’s move to Winnipeg. He is fifth in all-time scoring for the franchise and a two-time Stanley Cup winner. The Jets are retaining 36 per cent of the winger’s salary.
Ladd took social media Thursday night to say goodbye to Winnipeg.

His wife, Brandy Ladd tweeted a picture of their son and daughter wearing Jets jerseys saying, “we are sure going to miss Winnipeg and all our good friends!”

The Winnipeg Jets also said farewell to their former captain on their Twitter account soon after the trade was announced.

Chicago turned to social media to welcome Ladd who won’t be a stranger with the Blackhawks having played with them in the past, helping them win the Stanley Cup 2010.
