CHERRYVILLE — Six snowmobilers who had been missing east of Cherryville after failing to return on Sunday have been found.
They were located in the Pinnacles area around 11 a.m. on Monday by a Vernon Search and Rescue helicopter.
Pete Wise with Vernon SAR says a helicopter landed and loaded the snowmobilers on board and has taken them to safety.
No word on details about how they got lost but Wise says they are all safe.
“Right now is such a dangerous time,” says Wise. “There have been some real tragedies in the last week with people in the back country and going into areas with warnings and not making it out.”
Vernon Search and Rescue started its search on Monday morning.
All six snowmobilers are from the Vernon area and believed to be men.
The area where the sledders were reported missing is said to be a very technical.
A helicopter flew over the area to assess the risk of avalanche before crews began their search.
