CALGARY – Concerns over potential E. coli contamination has prompted a recall of pork products from Calgary stores.

The pork and pork organ products were supplied by Hillview Meat Processor, and may have been transformed into raw muscle meat cuts, ground pork, sausages and raw ready-to-eat products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the products, which were sold fresh or frozen, were only distributed in Alberta. The agency said the Hillview recall was linked to an earlier recall of Paolini’s Sausage & Meats products.

“The recall is part of the ongoing investigation into 15 confirmed cases and two probable cases of E. coli O157:H7 in Alberta,” the CFIA said in an email to Global News. “The CFIA has been working closely with the Alberta Health Services, the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada on this investigation for the purpose of identifying the source of the outbreak and taking necessary risk management actions.”

An E. coli outbreak in the summer of 2014 related to pork products made 119 people sick. AHS said the cause of that outbreak was exposure to contaminated pork products that were raised and distributed in Alberta. That outbreak was declared July 29, 2014 and declared over Nov. 13, 2014.
