Bombardier says it has been awarded part of Edmonton’s Valley Line LRT project

EDMONTON – Bombardier Transportation says it has won a contract for the new Valley Line LRT project in Edmonton.

The City of Edmonton has named TransEd Partners, a four-company consortium, as the preferred bidders.

Bombardier says the $391 million contract will include the design and supply of the LRT cars, signalling, communications, power supply and other equipment.

Stage 1 of the Valley Line project will include a 13.1 km system that will run from the southeast to downtown and will include 11 stops and one station.

The other companies in the TransEd Partners are engineering firm Bechtel, construction company EllisDon and Fengate Capital Management.

“TransEd Partners is excited to be working alongside the City of Edmonton on this important project to expand the local LRT network,” said Mac Bell, bid director for TransEd Partners in a news release.

“Our team looks forward to improving the travel options accessible to the citizens of Edmonton in a safe, sustainable, and affordable manner.”

Bombardier says companies involved in the project will use construction techniques to restrict any disturbances along the North Saskatchewan River valley and the river.

Fengate says the project is on schedule to start construction by the middle of this year.
