TORONTO – One person is dead after a fire in an apartment building in downtown Toronto Saturday afternoon.
Toronto Fire responded to a call at 149 Jameson Avenue, near the intersection with King Street West, at 12:49 p.m., where they encountered a blaze on the fifth floor of the building.
The fire was extinguished shortly after 1:30 p.m. but one resident was found inside with serious injuries.

Acting District Chief Peter Chow said the unit had heat and smoke detectors, but alarms were not sounding.
Paramedics attempted to treat the victim, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Toronto Fire says there were no working smoke alarms near the fire scene.
