MONTREAL – For the thousands of Montrealers who rely on their feet to get them around, things are about to get a lot more convenient this summer.
The city will be converting five areas of the island to either pedestrian-only or shared pedestrian and motor vehicle zones.

These areas will be similar to the closed sections of Sainte-Catherine street in the Place des Arts section and the Village.
The streets that will be modified this year are:
- Côte-des-Neiges and du Frère André (CDN-NDG)
- The Notre-Dame des Victoires sector (Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve)
- Dijon Street (Montreal North)
- Shamrock Place (Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie)
- De Biencourt Street and Monk Boulevard (Sud-Ouest)
The sectors were recommended by each borough following the success of a similar program last year.
The city expects an increase in pedestrian traffic will support local business in the areas.
