CALGARY – A petition started by two local radio hosts is asking the Calgary Stampede to name All-Star MVP John Scott as parade marshal for the 2016 Stampede.
Scott served as Pacific Division captain during the 2016 NHL All-Star weekend, leading Calgary Flames’ Mark Giordano and Johnny Gaudreau to a 1-0 win in the championship. He scored twice during the tournament.
The petition from Q107’s Sarah Crosbie and Jeff Brown says Scott is the “epitome of a classy professional athlete.”
“Get this man a White Hat and a horse and let’s bring him to Calgary.”
Scott made his NHL debut in 2009. He played for the Arizona Coyotes when he was named to the all-star team, but was later stunned by a trade to Montreal, which sent him to its AHL affiliate in St. John’s.
Former Stampede parade marshals include Olympian Kaillie Humphries, actor William Shatner, astronaut Chris Hadfield , Man in Motion Rick Hansen, actor Christopher Reeve and Mickey Mouse.
