WINNIPEG — A 26-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after police responded to a gun call at Polo Park shopping centre on Friday afternoon.
Police received reports of two men, each of whom were possibly armed, at around 12:30 p.m.
The call triggered a heavy police presence that appeared to centre around one of the entrances to the mall.
Officers quickly arrested two men. Police say their investigation determined that one of them had been making threatening gestures towards shoppers that imitated the holding and shooting of a firearm.
Clinton Peter Osborne, 26, has been charged with causing a disturbance and breach of probation.
“The suspect was apprehended right away, the incident has been taken care of,” said mall manager Deborah Greene on Friday afternoon. “The security team here and police handled it very quickly and very professionally.”
The other 41-year-old man who was also arrested at the scene was in possession of an airsoft gun.
It had been seen by witnesses even though it was concealed in a backpack. He was released without being charged.
