MONTREAL – The man arrested in a random stabbing in NDG made his first court appearance Thursday.

Mathew Roberge was charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, a 27-year-old woman was sent to hospital in critical condition after she was attacked on Monkland Avenue.

She suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body and remains in hospital.

In 2014, Roberge was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

He had just been released when the attack in NDG occurred.
