MONTREAL – A 27-year-old woman is in hospital after being stabbing in an unprovoked attack in NDG.
It happened around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.
“We are in the presence of a random crime,” confirmed André Leclerc with Montreal police.
“The victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time. No words were spoken and robbery is not a motive.”
The woman was stabbed with a sharp object while walking on Monkland Avenue, near Girouard Avenue.
She remains in hospital in critical, but stable condition with wounds to the upper body.
According to police, the victim did not know her 25-year-old assailant.
“The suspect appeared to be under the influence of a substance,” said Leclerc.
He fled before police arrived, but a K9 unit tracked him down shortly after.
The suspect, who is known to police, is expected to appear in court on charges of attempted murder.
