Lockdown at Vernon Secondary School over

VERNON–UPDATE:  School District 22 says a weapons scare caused a lock down at Vernon Secondary School on Wednesday morning.

A neighbour called the school at 9 a.m. to report someone had entered the school with a weapon.

The school was immediately put on lockdown and the RCMP responded.

After searching the building, RCMP found a student with a toy gun.

The lockdown was lifted less than an hour after it was implemented.

The RCMP and the School District Safe Schools’ Team will continue to investigate.

Vernon–Emergency procedures were put in place at Vernon Secondary School Wednesday morning just as classes were about to get underway.

Global Okanagan received a report from the parent of one of the students  who said the facility was on lockdown.

Four RCMP cruisers were seen at the school and metal blinds were rolled down over many of the windows.

Neither police or officials from School District 22 have yet released any information about the incident.

Classes have since resumed.
