REGINA – Three members of the Regina Police Service testified in the Goforth murder trial on Thursday.

Tammy and Kevin Goforth are facing charges in the death of a 4-year-old girl and abusing her two-year-old sister, while the pair were in their care in August of 2012.

The three responding officers called to testify in the trial took the jury through the events that played out on August 1st, 2012, the day a four year old girl was brought to the General Hospital – where she later died.

Sgt Derek Lamer was originally called to the hospital that morning for reports of an assault on a child.

He told the court he first saw the 4-year-old victim “laying motionless in a hospital bed” adding she was “small, skinny, and not conscious.”

Sgt Lamer searched the Goforth’s home with another officer who testified later in the afternoon…but no other children were found inside.

Cst. Brittany Dunford described the home as being in “complete disarray.”

The girl’s mother cried as the third officer who found the victim’s 2-year-old sister at another home testified…the officer stated she was instantly concerned the girl wasn’t very responsive and had a number of injuries, including bruising around her eye.

In the defence’s cross examination the jury heard that the pair were cooperative with police.

During Friday’s testimony the jurors will be learning more about the health and injuries of the girls when a pediatrician testifies.
