Smoking blamed for early morning Saskatoon house fire

SASKATOON – Firefighters extinguished a blaze in the Massey Place neighbourhood Tuesday. Just before 7 a.m. CT, the Saskatoon Fire Department was called to a report of a house fire at 108 Mackie Cres.

The lone occupant and her two dogs safely evacuated the home.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the home. Firefighters entered the house and contained the blaze to the room of origin.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

An investigator determined the cause of the fire was smoking and was accidental in nature.
