PORT PERRY, Ont. – Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal shooting in Port Perry.
The Special Investigations Unit says Durham Regional police officers were called to a house (on Waterbury Crescent) around 9:30 Saturday evening where they encountered a 59-year-old man.
The SIU says there was an interaction and the man was shot. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A nine-member SIU team has been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
