Alberta Liberals stay with David Swann; to pick new leader in 2017

EDMONTON – The Alberta Liberals are going to stay with David Swann as interim leader for another year.

The party executive and riding presidents have voted to schedule a leadership convention in the spring of 2017.

They say that will give candidates time to organize and gain support well ahead of the next scheduled provincial election in 2019.

The Liberals are rebuilding after a poor showing in last May’s campaign.

They won just one seat — Swann’s in Calgary Mountain View.

They took just over four per cent of the popular vote.
