Child in critical condition after being hit by pickup in Maple Ridge

A child is sent to hospital via air ambulance after he was hit by a pickup truck on Cottonwood Drive on January 10, 2016.

A boy is fighting for his life tonight after he was hit by a vehicle in Maple Ridge this afternoon.

The boy – initially thought to be 8 years old – and his dog were walking on Cottonwood Drive near 116th avenue just before 4 p.m. when he was struck by a pickup. He was airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

The driver stayed on scene, and there is no word if speed or weather were factors.

It happened just two hours after a pedestrian was struck in Burnaby. Just before two, a 70-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he was hit by a vehicle exiting the underground parkade of the Burnaby Public Library.

The elderly man was pinned under the car and crews used jacks to free him. He was rushed to hospital in grave condition. That driver also stayed on scene.
