Combative teenage Kelowna fraud suspect facing numerous charges

KELOWNA – He’s just 16-years-old but it appears he has a life of crime ahead of him.

On Thursday night, Kelowna RCMP were called to the Orchard Park Mall where the teenager was trying to buy merchandise with multiple debit cards using only the “tap” feature on the terminals.

When confronted, the youth pushed a police officer and ran away. Civilians tried unsuccessfully to stop him.

The officer and mall security caught up to the suspect outside the mall where he allegedly resisted arrest, becoming combative and uttering threats. He also damaged a police vehicle.

RCMP say he was in possession of personal identification, credit cards and cheques belonging to people who had recently had their wallets stolen. He also had prescription medicine not prescribed to him.

“The Kelowna RCMP is interested in identifying the bystanders who attempted to assist our officer inside the mall. If you participated in attempting to prevent the suspect from fleeing and have not yet spoken to police, please contact Cst. Sheldon Herman at 250-762-3300,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release.
