MONCTON – The owner of a Moncton market says he has been overwhelmed with community support following a fire Sunday night.

Hossein Barar started Dolma Food in Moncton’s downtown about six years ago. The building included a market, sushi restaurant and three upstairs apartments.

“Its humbling and at the same time encouraging,” Barar said of the support.

The fire left five tenants homeless until they could find lodging.

Barar said there are plans to rebuild and provide limited work for his 15 employees.

In the meantime, he said all donations should go the fire victims and staff.

“That will help employees bridge this gap until we get back into operation,” he said.

Monique Macpherson was one of the tenants. She lived there with her common law husband and daughter.

She said the donations have been greatly appreciated.

“It’s overwhelming,” she said. “I almost feel guilty, but then I realize I need this because I have nothing.”
