HALIFAX – The Pictou man accused of murdering Nicole Campbell has been sent for a psychiatric exam.
Robert Jason MacKenzie is charged with the second-degree murder of Campbell, a 33-year-old mother of three. She was found dead inside an apartment on Temperance Street in New Glasgow on Dec. 31.
Police officers continue to hold the crime scene while investigators process the apartment for evidence.
An autopsy was performed on Campbell by a medical examiner in Halifax, but New Glasgow police say they are not releasing the cause of death while the investigation continues.
The psychiatric exam will determine whether or not MacKenzie is fit to stand trial on the charges.
The 36-year-old has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 4.
