Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a male suspect involved in an alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in Newmarket early Friday morning.
Police say the victim was walking westbound on a pathway that runs parallel to Davis Drive near a GO bus terminal on Jan. 1 before 3 a.m. when she was approached by a man who grabbed her, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
Investigators say they are seeking to speak with a male pedestrian who interrupted the assault and left the scene prior to police arriving.
Police say the victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect is described as a male with a lean build, between 30 to 40 years of age, about 5’9″ tall and wore a covering that concealed his face.
Police don’t believe the incident is connected to an ongoing sexual assault investigation in the Newmarket area.
Those cases involved victims being groped near the Upper Canada Mall.
