CALGARY- With the holidays coming to an end, it’s time to pack up the decorations and toss your Christmas tree, but don’t plan a trip to the landfill just yet.
The City of Calgary has some other suggestions to get rid of it.
Calgarians who recycle their Christmas tree will help keep nearly 35,000 trees out of the landfill and keep collection crews on schedule during this busy time.
WATCH: Recycle your real Christmas tree
The city will collect Christmas trees along with residential garbage, as long as the tree is on the curb by 7 a.m. on Jan. 8.
Crews have also set up eight temporary drop-off depots that will be in operation until the end of January.

Trees will be ground into mulch, which will be available free-of-charge from the East Calgary landfill.
