A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 63-year-old man Wednesday evening.

The man was found lying in the street at Danforth and Gillard avenues just before midnight. He was transported to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Meron Guizzardi, 27, of Mississauga, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and failure to stop at scene of accident causing death.

She made a brief court appearance in a Toronto court Friday morning. She is scheduled to reappear on Jan. 5.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The death marks the 64th fatality involving a motor vehicle in Toronto this year, the highest number since 2004.

The victim is the 38th pedestrian struck this year. The record of 40 was set in 2013.
