Therrien said there isn’t enough room in the back of the helicopter to accommodate a delivery so the ground ambulance was the best option.

A  STARS critical care nurse and critical care paramedic were in the ambulance, along with a local EMS crew, when it was forced to pull over on Hwy 17, about 40 minutes south of Hodgeson.

The baby was born in the back of the ambulance which then carried on to St. Boniface hospital.

Therrien said the baby and mother were both in stable condition when they arrived at the hospital.

It’s the first time a STARS helicopter crew has assisted in a birth in Manitoba.
