LONGUEUIL – It’s Christmas Eve and police officers in Longueuil are in a giving mood.
But they’re not handing out tickets – they’re giving out money.
“An anonymous donor gave $2,500 to police officers,” said Melanie Mercille with Longueuil police.
“The police officers stop vehicles or walkers and give them $100.”
Most people were in shock when they were approached by the officers – some perhaps wondering what they did wrong.
One woman couldn’t believe what she was hearing when the officer explained to her that she wasn’t going to be getting a ticket, but instead, she was going to be pocketing money.

Police had a bundle of about 25 $100 bills, so they had to choose wisely.
The only request the anonymous donor had was that the money be given to those who need in most.
This is the second year in a row that Longueuil police force has handed out money around the holiday season.
