More candy canes than tickets handed out at Sask. check stops

A number of drivers were lucky enough to receive candy canes from Saskatchewan RCMP officers over the past few weeks. Not everyone had the same experience though.

Roughly 900 vehicles were pulled over during one day check stops near Humboldt, Blaine Lake, Rosetown, Kindersley and Saskatoon.

Police charged one driver for impaired driving while two others were handed 72-hour suspensions. Seven charges were also given out for having open liquor in a vehicle and one driver was given a suspension for failing a roadside sobriety test.

Tickets were also given out to two drivers for passing emergency vehicles and one driver was ticketed for not having a child secured.

Members of the combined traffic services Saskatchewan central regions will be conducting check stops throughout the holiday season.
