File / Global News

HALIFAX – RCMP are scouring the waters in Sheet Harbour, N.S., looking for clues in a double murder that shocked the province three years ago.

The remains of Earle Stewart, 59, and Matthew Hebb, 22, were found by emergency personnel after they responded to a structure fire off Highway 374 on December 12, 2012.  Both men lived on Herring Cove Road in Halifax, and were in the area getting a Christmas tree.

Two people were arrested shortly after the pair’s bodies were discovered, but were released after questioning. No charges have even been laid, but police say they have continued work on the case for the past three years.

Const. Mark Skinner, RCMP, will not say what information led them back to the area or exactly what they are searching for, only that “the investigation has led in this direction.”

Anyone with information about the double murder is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
