Crews battled two fires at the same Port Coquitlam home in a roughly 12-hour time span over the weekend.
Crews were called to a house fire in the 3700-block of Sefton St. at around 2 p.m. Saturday. All residents got out of the home safely.
Investigators said it appeared a candle sparked the initial blaze. At around 7 p.m., a restoration company boarded up the home.
A second fire was discovered around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Deputy fire chief Robert Kipps said Sunday morning that investigators initially deemed the fire “suspicious in nature.”
Investigators later said they no longer considered the fire suspicious, saying the second blaze may have been a rekindling of the initial fire.
Surrounding homes were evacuated as a safety precaution. Those homes suffered no damage and no injuries were reported.
