Cool to lukewarm, add yeast, one well-beaten egg.

Stir in 2 cups flour, beat until smooth.

Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups flour to make soft dough.

Cover, leave in warm place, let rise till double (about 60 to 90 minutes)

Knead dough and shape into twisters.

Let rise for a few minutes and then deep fry.

NOTE FROM DALLAS: It takes a few tries to get the oil at the right temperature so the twisters don’t absorb the oil, don’t burn outside and are cooked inside. 350 F is a good start for testing, but it depends on deep fryer. When we take them out of the deep fryer, we place in a basket with paper towels so any excess oil is soaked up.

Serve warm with butter, jam or on their own.
