CALGARY – An off-duty Calgary police officer is recovering in hospital following a serious crash on Highway 2, north of the city. Another man suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
It happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. in the northboud lanes, near Airdrie.
A 2002 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler.

Calgary police said the officer was travelling north and the Ford Taurus was travelling the wrong way.
The 31-year-old driver of the Ford was taken to hospital in critical condition and the 31-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken to hospital with serious non-life threatening conditions.
“There was quite significant damage to the vehicles involved,” said Adam Loria with Calgary EMS.
“Two people – the lone occupants of each vehicle – were transported by ground paramedics to Foothills.”
The officer has undergone surgery for his injuries and is currently listed in stable condition.
RCMP said they received calls from concerned motorists alerting police that the Ford was traveling in the wrong direction prior to the crash.
RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the collision. Investigators have not ruled out any factors, including impairment or weather.
