Vernon pot protesters say political action needed following RCMP warning

VERNON – About 50 people held a peaceful protest outside Vernon City Hall Friday in response to a recent RCMP warning.

Operators of the city’s five medical marijuana dispensaries were told they could be shut down, and charges laid, as they’re allegedly breaking the law.

Protest organizer and dispensary owner, Jeff Gaudette, says they’re hoping the federal government takes notice.

“This needs to go up the ladder politically. We need to put a stop to basically terrorism of patients being threatened that they could be charged for just being in the establishment,” says Gaudette.

The dispensaries are currently on rotating closures which have only one shop open on any given day.

Gaudette says they’ll meet next week to decide if the intermittent closures will continue.
