MONTREAL – It was a big week in politics, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made his first official visit to Quebec as Canada’s leader to discuss Syrian refugees, and the province moved ahead with its assisted-dying law.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Quebec City Friday to meet with Premier Philippe Couillard ahead of the arrival of thousands of Syrian refugees in the province.

Giving gifts at WIPCR

Quebec assisted-dying law

Quebec Health Minister Gaétan Barrette said the province’s controversial legislation on assisted dying will become law Thursday.

He made the announcement after Quebec’s top tribunal gave the province the green light to appeal a lower-court ruling that granted an injunction which blocks the bill from taking effect.

Plastic bag ban

The City of Montreal’s environmental commission is recommending a ban on plastic bags.

MUHC parking problems
