EDMONTON – A woman and a man were arrested Thursday after trying to get away from police in a stolen car in Red Deer.

RCMP found a stolen Honda Civic with two people inside in the north end of the city.

The female driver reversed the car when police approached, almost hitting one of the officers, RCMP said.

The Civic then hit a parked vehicle and came to a stop before the two people were arrested.

Haley Jaide Kerekanitch, 22, has been charged with several offences including flight from a police officer, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Mitchell Thomas Huber, 21, has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with recognizance.

Kerekanitch was also wanted on 21 outstanding warrants out of Innisfail and Red Deer for incidents including theft, possession of stolen property, and drug trafficking and possession.
