Murder charge laid following fatal stabbing at Red Deer pub

EDMONTON — RCMP have charged a 31-year-old man with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing at a pub in Red Deer earlier this month.

Daniel Boyd Sawyer, 31, turned himself in to Red Deer RCMP on Friday. He has since been charged in the homicide of 31-year-old Alan Beach.

RCMP were called to a disturbance at a Red Deer pub shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Beach was found suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to Red Deer Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Police are still searching for a second suspect in Beach’s death. He is described as a Caucasian man, about 30 years old with short, dark hair. He is about 5’10” tall, weighs approximately 200 pounds and is clean shaven. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, dark pants and a dark-coloured baseball cap with a white logo on the front.

Police believe he was travelling in a black pickup truck. He is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Sawyer is set to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Dec. 1.
