Rain and wind warning in effect for Metro Vancouver

Environment Canada has issued a rain and wind warning for Metro Vancouver tonight.

“An intense Pacific frontal system will approach the South Coast tonight with wind being the greatest concern,” they said in a statement.

“Southeast winds of 50-70 km/h are anticipated for areas near the water beginning near midnight and diminishing near noon Thursday.”

Rainfall of up to 70 mm is also expected, with the heaviest rains near Howe Sound and the North Shore mountains.

They warn that flash floods are possible.

Heavy winds are also expected for Greater Victoria, the Sunshine Coast, the Southern Gulf Islands and East Vancouver Island, with wind speeds approaching 80 km/h in exposed coastal areas.
