Alleged arsonist won’t be going to trial

VERNON — A man who allegedly sparked a fire at Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park had his arson charge stayed.

Justin James Rees, 24, was arrested in the Cosens Bay area of Coldstream in June after being found near the blaze.

Fire crews and people in the park jumped into action to douse the flames.

At the time, police said Rees was charged with arson based on witness statements.

Crown Counsel has not commented why a stay of proceedings was issued.
